Praziquantel/ Pyrantel/ Febantel tablet
For veterinary use only.
Category: Broad spectrum combination anthelmintic
Form: Oral tablet
Target Animal: Dog
Compound: Each tablet contains 50 mg Praziquantel, 144 mg Pyrantel Pamoate and 150 mg Febantel.
Indication: To eliminate tapeworms (Dipylidium Caninum, Taenia Pisiformi, Echinococcus Granulosus and to control and eliminate Echinococcus Mutilocularis), hookworms (Ancylostoma Caninum and Uncinaria Stenocephala), Ascarids (Toxocara Canis and Toxocara Leonia) and whipworms (Trichuris Vulpis) in dog.
Mode of Action:
Praziquantel: Abruptly gets absorbed from parasite’s body surface, imposing severe damage upon parasite’s membrane. Also, by affecting cations exchange especially Calcium, parasite faces tetanic and paralytic contractions.
Pyrantel: Acts as a Cholinergic agonists and by stimulating Cholinergic Nicotinic receptors, Pyrantel enables paralysis and eliminates parasites via digestive system.
Febantel: By blocking microtubules’ formation, Febantel destructs vital structures needed for a parasite to survive normally. Also, by prohibiting Glucose absorption, Febantel releases energy stored in Nematode cells, leading to cell’s eventual death.
Pharmakokinetic:
Praziquantel: Once administered orally, it is absorbed completely via intestines and gets distributed throughout all the organs. In liver Praziquantel metabolizes inactively and secretes into bile. Approximately, more than 95% of the administered dose is excreted in 24 hours. A maximum quantity of Plasma density is created up to 2.5 hours after drug administration.
The Pamoate salt present in Pyrantel has a low solubility in water, therefore, reducing its absorption via digestive system and enhancing the probability of reaching into large intestine, affecting all parasites present in that area. Once absorbed, Pyrantel Pamoate fully and rapidly metabolizes with inactive metabolics and quickly excretes via urine.
Febantel: Absorbs rapidly once administered and gets metabolized with Fenbendazole and Oxfendazole metabolites that have anthelmintic nature. A maximum quantity of Plasma density is created up to 7-9 hours after the drug administration.
Containdication: Not to be prescribed for pregnant dogs. Not to be concurrently used along with Piperazine compounds. Not to be used with other anthelmintic and other Protozoal drugs. Not to be administered in cases of liver failure, ear’s internal Cysticercosis and spinal neurocysticercosis.
