Colistin sulphate solution (2 million IU)
For veterinary use only.
Category: Antibiotics (Polymyxins).
Form: Oral solution.
Compound: Each ml contains 2,000,000 international units of Colistin sulphate.
Target Animal: Calf, lamb and poultry.
Indication: Affects G.I infections caused by gram-negative bacteria such as E-coli, salmonella and pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Mode of Action: It is not known exactly, but it is known that colistin has bactericidal activity. The effect on the bacterial cell membrane, binding with lipopolysaccharides and phospholipids of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria and the displacement of Ca⁺² and Mg⁺² cations from the phosphate group of membrane lipids, leads to the permeability and destruction of the bacterial outer membrane and its death. Colistin is effective both in the resting phase and in the active phase of the bacteria.
Pharmacokinetic: After oral administration, there is no intestinal absorption or very little, and this causes its function and concentration to increase in the intestinal lumen. In chickens, it can be measured in the serum up to 6 hours after administration. It is completely excreted through feces.
Dosage & Administration

• Calf and lamb: 0.25 ml per 10 kg body weight. Once every 12 hrs for 3-4 days.
• Poultry: 0.25 ml for each litre of drinking water for 3 days.

Or according to the veterinarian prescription.
Cautions: Must be consumed by maximum 24 hrs once it’s dissolved in drinking water. keep out of reach of children.
Drug interaction: Do not use along with other bacteriostatic antibiotics. Not to be consumed along with muscle relaxants, Levamisole and nephrotoxic drugs such as Aminoglycosides.
Contraindication: Do not prescribe it for those poultry and livestock that suffer from severe renal failure and G.I complications. Not to be given to those poultry and livestock in which their egg and milk will be consumed by human.
Side Effects: Kidney damage, vision disorders, dizziness, nausea, respiratory disorders and muscle weakness.
Withdrawal time:

• Meat and offal: 7 days.
• Broiler: 2 days.

Preservation: Keep containers closed, at room temperature (below 30 °C ) away from direct sunlight. Protect from freezing.
Packing: 1 L of polyethylene bottle.
