DAMYARANARAK

DamyaMectin®

 Ivermectin
For veterinary use only
Category: Anthelmintic (macrocyclic lactones).
Form: Oral tablet.
Compound: Each tablet contains 68 mcg Ivermectin.
Target Animal: Dogs.
Indication: To prevent heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis), by destroying the parasite larvae. Also, for the treatment of infestations caused by Sarcoptes scabiei, Otodectes cynotis, and Demodex canis.
Mode of action: It exerts its effect by activating and binding to Glutamate-gated chloride channels in parasite neurons and increasing the permeability of chloride ions, causing hyperpolarization and ultimately paralysis and death of the parasite. Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration, up to 95% of ivermectin is absorbed. Oral ivermectin is absorbed much more rapidly than subcutaneous injection. It is distributed in most tissues but does not penetrate into the CSF fluid, which reduces the toxicity of the drug. Its protein binding is about 90%. In some dog breeds that have a mutation in the MDR1 gene, due to a defect in the P-glycoprotein transporter, ivermectin can penetrate the CNS at much higher concentrations and cause neurotoxicity.
Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose for the prevention of dog’s heartworm disease is at least 6 mcg/kg of body weight at intervals of one month: tablet/month Dog weight (kg) tablet/month Dog weight (kg) tablet/month Dog weight (kg) 1 up to 11.3 2 11.3-22.7 4 23.18-45.5
Note: It is recommended that dogs be monitored for a few minutes after taking the tablet to ensure that it is swallowed whole. This tablet should be administered at intervals of one month during the seasons of the year when the vector carriers of the pathogenic larvae of the heartworm are active. The first dose should be taken within one month after the first exposure of the carrier insect and the final dose within one month after the last exposure of the dog by the carrier insect. If the time intervals between doses are more than one month, it can reduce the effectiveness of the medicine. If treatment is delayed for several days or more, prompt administration of the medicine and resumption of the recommended regimen will minimize the possibility of adult heartworm growth.
Caution: Must be kept out of reach of children. Before starting treatment with this tablet, all dogs must be tested for heartworm infestation, as this medicine does not affect adult heartworms. Therefore, dogs infected with adult heartworm and its microfilariae should be treated before starting this product. Using this tablet at the prescribed dose may kill some microfilariae but not repel them. In clinical trials in dogs with microfilariae in their bloodstream and treated with ivermectin, a mild hypersensitivity reaction and temporary diarrhea due to the presence of dead microfilariae in the bloodstream were observed. The medicine has a high safety margin “at recommended doses”, including in pregnant dogs, breeders and 6 weeks puppies, and older. Some dogs breeds such as Collie, Australian shepherds, German shepherds, sky terriers, etc. that have MDR1 genetic mutation, are more sensitive to prescribing high doses (more than 16 times the recommended dose) of other breeds of dogs and symptoms such as dilated pupils, depression, imbalance, tremors, runny mouth, limbs paralysis, irritability, dizziness, coma, and death may occur.
Drug interaction: Some drugs increase the effect of ivermectin on the animal brain, such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, cyclosporine, erythromycin, amlodipine besylate, and nifedipine. Spinosad should not be used if high doses of ivermectin are used to treat mite infestation.
Contraindication: Do not use in puppies under 6 weeks. Refer to the “Caution” section for treatment considerations in dogs with MDR1 genetic defect and dogs infected with adult worms and their microfilariae.
Side Effects: Depression or lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, dilated pupils, imbalance, dizziness, seizures, and hypersalivation.
Preservation: Must be kept in a dry place, away from direct light and at room temperature (below 30°C)
