Closantel + Mebendazole Oral Suspension
For veterinary use only
Category: Anthelmintic (From Benzimidazoles and Salicylanilides family).
Form: Oral suspension.
Compound: Each ml of oral suspension contains 50 mg Closantel as sodium and 75 mg Mebendazole.
Target Animal: Sheep and lamb.
Indication: Closantel is very effective upon elimination of liver flukes (Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica), digestive system’s blood-feeding nematodes and Oestrus ovis larvae (Nasal Bot). Furthermore, Mebendazole is effective upon elimination of digestive system’s nematodes, lungworms (Mature Dictyocaulus filaria and larva) and Cestodes (Moniezia and Avitellina species).
Mode of Action: By influencing Mitochondrial membrane, Closantel prevents oxidative phosphorylation and electron’s transfer, hence, blocking ATP formation and eventually killing parasite due to drastic change in its metabolism. Mebendazole allows destruction of Cytoplasmic microtubules, inhibiting Glucose removal by mature larva, killing the parasite.
Pharmacokinetics:
Closantel:
Once administered orally, Closantel quickly gets absorbed by blood circulation and reaches maximum plasmatic concentration in 24-48 hours after oral administration. The unchanged Closantel molecule completely (99% <) bonds with Plasma Albumin making its distribution among tissues very rare. Its half-life in plasma is 3-4 weeks. A very small quantity is metabolized and its excretion via gallbladder and a little portion of it via urine.
Mebendazole:
Due to its low solubility in water, Mebendazole absorbs a little in digestive system. Therefore, its main excretion mostly takes place as an unchanged drug’s molecule via feces. Once metabolized in liver a small absorbed quantity is excreted via gallbladder and a little amount via urine.
Dosage and Administration:
Once the bottle is shaken well, administer the suspension orally via drenching gun:
15 mg Mebendazole and 10 mg Closantel per kg bodyweight for sheep and lamb (1 ml suspension per 5 kg bodyweight).
Contraindication: Not to be used concurrently with compounds containing Chlorine (like insecticides) in order to prevent poisonous reactions.
Side Effects: Closantel + Mebendazole suspension is not poisonous in treatable dosages and doesn’t create any side effects. This drug can be used for pregnant animals and even throughout mating period.
Cautions:
Withdrawal Time: Meat: 28 days
Preservation: Kept in room temperature (below 30ºC) and away from direct light. Be protected from freezing.
