Levamisole Hydrochloride powder
For veterinary use only.
Category: Anthelmintic (Imidazothiazoles)
Form: Oral powder.
Compound: Each 5 g sachet contains 1.5 g Levamisole Hydrochloride.
Target Animal: Sheep, goat and poultry.
Mode of Action: By directly influencing worms’ neural system, Levamisole quickly paralyzes them, facilitating their easy detachment from respiratory mucus, digestive tube and their rapid exit from animal’s body. Hence, with minimal damage to mucus and animal’s digestive system, entire respiratory and digestive worms present in body will be eliminated and excreted.
Pharmacokinetic: Once administered orally, Levamisole quickly gets absorbed and its plasmatic concentration reaches maximum level in 3 hours. Once the absorption process is complete, Levamisole distributes vastly and promptly throughout different tissues. Levamisole is mainly metabolized in liver and less than 5% of it remains unchanged which will be excreted via urine. 90% of the entire prescribed dose will be excreted in 24 hours. Metabolites mainly are excreted via urine and a little via feces.
Indication: Levamisole is an effective anthelmintic consumed for control and treatment of nematodes in larval and adult stages in gastrointestinal and respiratory system in sheep, goat and poultry.
Dosage and Administration:
Sheep and goat: 7.5 mg Levamisole per kg bodyweight (each 5 g sachet per 200 kg livestock weight) administered to animal via drencher or a needleless syringe. Dissolve the components of each sachet in 150 ml clean and hot water (2.5 cup) and per 40 kg bodyweight administer 30 ml (half a cup). In order to attain the right dosage of this drug you need to calculate the precise weight of animal as well as the efficiency of drencher device. In cases of pregnant sheep, it is advised that Levamisole be administered once, six weeks prior to labor and the second time after breastfeeding lambs.
Poultry: 25 mg per kg body weight (dissolve each 5g sachet in 1 ml drinking water per 60 kg bodyweight).
Caution: Due to its close therapeutic and toxic dose, it is advised not to consume quantity more than prescribed by vet.
Drug Interaction: This drug interacts with Chloramphenicol, Pyrantel and Organophosphorus compounds and it is essential that there will be a 14-day gap time between consumption of Levamisole and rest of these drugs.
Withdrawal Time: The milk and meat of the treated animal should not be consumed for 3 days.
Preservation: Store in a dry place, at room temperature (below 30°C) and away from light.
Packing: 25 g boxes (5g X 5 sachets).
