LoxiVet®

 Meloxicam 1 mg
For veterinary use only.
Category: Anti- inflammatory (non- steroidal), anti- fever and anti- pain.
Form: Oral tablet. Compound: Each tablet contains 1 mg Meloxicam. Target Animal: Dog.
Indication: Prescribed as an anti- inflammatory and anti- pain agent in cases of critical and chronic musculoskeletal disorders.
Mode of action: Meloxicam produces antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. As a result of inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, a decrease in leukocyte infiltration into inflamed tissue occurs. According to laboratory and in vivo studies, meloxicam inhibits the cox-2 enzyme more than cox-1.
Pharmacokinetics: Meloxicam is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and reaches its maximum plasma concentration after approximately 7.5 hours. Approximately 97% of meloxicam is bound to plasma proteins. Its major excretion is via bile, 75% of it is excreted via feces and the remainder via urine. The major metabolites resulting from its metabolism are pharmacologically inactive. Dosage and
Administration: Curable dosage for 1st day of treatment is 0.2 mg/ kg and later on with a 24- hour time interval, a daily dosage of 0.1 mg/ kg until the treatment process is complete. The entire treatment process takes about 3-4 days and maximum up to 10 days. Drug can be administered either with food or solely. Body weight(kg) 4-7 7-10 10-15 15-20 1 mg tablet quantity 0.5 1 1.5 2
Cautions: Not to be administered for animals that suffer from body dehydration or low blood pressure due to its possible renal damage. Keep out of reach of children.
Drug Interaction: Not to be concurrently used along with other non- steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs, anticoagulant and diuretic drugs and glycosidic antibiotics due to their rivalry for bonding with proteins and possible negative side effects. To prevent severity of drug interaction in situations where anti- inflammatory drugs have been used prior to Meloxicam consumption, its advised to give a 24-hour break between anti-inflammatory drug’s final dosage and start of Meloxicam administration.
Contraindication: Not to be prescribed for pregnant dogs while lactating, cases of digestive system’s failure such as inflammation or hemorrhage, liver failure, hemorrhagic diseases and renal or heart failures. Not to be prescribed for poppies under 6 months of age or with a body weight of less than 4 Kgs. Side Effects: There have been cases of loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting reported.
